Substitute Teaching Information

Dear Prospective Substitute Teacher,

Welcome to Hillsborough!  Becoming a substitute teacher is a great way to get yourself involved in the school community as well as the most realistic “proving ground” for anyone who may be looking for full-time employment someday.  Many of our current employees first worked as substitutes and are now enjoying contracted employment in the high-achieving and high-performing school district that Hillsborough indeed is!

Whether you are looking for that “proving ground” leading to potential full time employment some day or if you are simply interested in the flexibility and experiences in being a day-to-day substitute, you, as a substitute teacher, are one of the most vital parts of our school system.  It would be extremely difficult for us to operate our school on a satisfactory basis without all persons such as yourself serving as substitute teachers.  All schools wish to extend to you a most cordial welcome as a substitute teacher. Your daily work is an important contribution to the instructional program of our schools.

The first step in becoming a substitute teacher is to complete the paperwork in the pdf document on this page.  All of this paperwork, including the criminal history check, fingerprinting, and getting your substitute certificate must be completed before you apply on line or contact the Human Resources office to be interviewed.  Should you have any questions about the paperwork, please contact Pinky Nielsen at (908) 431-6600 x 2999.  However, there is a cover sheet which hopefully can answer most of your questions.

Thank you for your interest.  We look forward to meeting with you soon.
